Busy bees

Ipad fun...
Miss Shah and Room 18 spent some time with us so that we could try out their new mini ipads.
This is us working on some maths games.
Here is Oliver trying out 'Reading Eggs.'
Thanks to the money raised by the Fair Committee last year we are getting 5 ipads...
we can't wait!
The children in the 'Tricky Puzzles' workshop made treasure maps with Miss Harris.
Here is Alan designing his own special island.
The children had great fun ripping the edges of their maps and dipping them in tea to make them look old.
Caitlin and Ethan are sharing their findings about life cycles.
The children made booklets about some of their discoveries.
Here they are comparing their findings.
You are welcome to come and read our 'Inquiry Scrapbook.'

A Heartfelt Thank You....

Thank you for participating in the Mufti Day for Ella B.
This is Lilly who organised our school Mufti Day.
She helped Merrin to raise $600. This will help Ella's family to buy a blade, so that she can once again enjoy her running.

Thank you Hawthornden Kidsfirst Kindergarten!

We would like to thank the children and teachers from
Hawthornden Kindergarten for their mystery gift!
We were very excited on Tuesday morning when one of our Mums bought in an interesting box.
We all had a go at guessing what we thought was inside.
When we finally opened it we discovered exciting yellow sand and glitter.
Here is Harrison exploring it with his hands.
 What's this......treasure!
Here is Alara showing us some special glass stones.

We love playing with it!
Thank you for your kindness Hawthorden Kindy!

Wondering Workshops

The children in Year 1 have been sharing 'wonderings' about a lot of different things!
We have decided to explore 3 questions further.
These questions are:
* How do I make space drawings and creations?
* How do I solve tricky puzzles?
* Why do small creatures change and grow?
The children from Rooms 1, 2 and 3 have all chosen which workshop they would like to join.
The first group is exploring space art. Here is Jacob painting some sun spots. The children looked at some youtube clips and realised they also need to add some solar flares.
The children are really enjoying working with children from the other classrooms. This week they have sketched rockets and they are using materials to build their own 3D rockets.
Here is Ms Steel and the children talking about the tools they will need to get ready, to help their learning.
Children working in Room 2 having been solving jigsaw puzzles, mazes, treasure hunts and word finds. Next week the children want to make their own treasure maps.
Children in Room 1 have been looking at creatures, youtube clips, photos, books and posters to learn about the life cycle of frogs, honey bees, ladybirds and butterflies. Here is Brendon with his life cycle of a 7 spotted ladybird.
These children shared their finding with the other children at Whetu Time.
We compared the life cycle of a honey bee with the life cycle of a ladybird.
Here is the venn diagram we made to compare what is the same and what is different about their life cycles.

Rapunzel

On Thursday we had a visit from the 'Playhouse' performance group.
They put on a show for us called  'A Land Faraway's Got Talent-X Factor'
-phew what a mouthful!!
The X factor judge didn't like our singing!
Here is Pinocchio trying to impress the judge, Simon Cow.
Simon Cow was very mean to all the contestants!
When Rapunzel sang, Simon Cow thought she was wonderful.
He loved her voice so much that he used a special recording device to steal her singing voice.
Prince Rupee taught her how to rap so that she could still perform and enjoy music!
Rapunzel's voice won a special prize.
Here is Rapunzel rapping away about her loooooooooong hair!
Simon Cow had to apologise for being so mean.
Oscar's sister Chloe thanked the performers for visiting our school.
