Exploring our Questions....

This week we have started to explore our own questions about bubbles. We have watched some great YouTube clips about making bubbles.
Can we make different shaped bubbles? How do you make bubble mixture? How can we make bubbles get bigger?
In pairs we explored making bubble with shampoo.
We compared these bubbles to bubbles made from dish washing liquid and glycerol. We found this recipe in one of our science books.
We even tried mixtures using soap and washing machine powder. Gee...we thought of so many questions!
Some people found they could make bigger bubbles when they blew through their hands rather than using the bubble wands.
Penny and Emilie discovered that when your hands are wet you can put your finger through the bubbles and they won't pop.
If you blow too hard the bubbles always pop!
 Shampoo made the biggest bubbles.
The glycerol bubbles had the most colours.
We had fun getting bubble mixture everywhere.
Bubbles made out of lux flakes felt really slimey!
Now we have even more questions than when we started!

Wild and Wacky Weather Week!

On sunny Monday we welcomed Mr Mark Steven to our classroom. He is going to be on teaching placement in Room 1 for the next 3 weeks. We are very pleased to have his help!
We were very lucky to have a visit from the New Zealand Book Festival Roadshow.
Their librarians showed us the books that have made it into the New Zealand finals.
We especially enjoyed listening to the new Margaret Mahy book called 'Mr Whistler'.
At buddy time Room 15 showed us their air cannon experiment. Mr Ford showed us that when you hit the plastic on top, it pushed out a large amount of air.
 He lit a candle....
 Asked for keen volunteers....
and extinquished the flame!
On Friday Klaudia and Charlotte played with gloop at Discovery Time. What a mess!

We wish you all a warm and relaxing weekend...will the snow fall?!

Strike Percussion

On Tuesday we had a visit from Strike Percussion Group from Wellington. One of the group members went to Burnside High.
We had the chance to listen to them play a range of musical pieces using drums, sticks and a glockenspiel.
They were very loud!

Happy Hip Hairdressers...for the best look in town!

On Friday we opened our 'Happy Hip Hairdressers' at Discovery Time.
Krissy and Charlotte had turns at being the receptionist. We had to make a booking and then the parents called us when they were ready to do our hair.
The tables were full of hair gel, ribbons, clips and hairspray. The boys looked great with their hair all spiked up.
Natalie plaited special coloured hair into our hair. We had to sit very still which is quite difficult!
Lexus wanted to try out being a hairdresser. Her first client was her great grandmother!!!! Can you see her special pink ribbon? ( We hope she comes again for a visit!)
Mrs H could hear so much laughter that she decided to come and join us.
Wow... she was really good at doing fancy styles.
Thank you parents for all your help!
