International Day

Today was our Merrin School International Day.
We came to school in clothes that represented our cultural heritage.
Hannah and her Mum Annie dressed up in national costumes from Indonesia.
Hannah was very brave and held the country sign for our school parade.
Klaudia joined Adam and Philip to represent Slovakia.
Nikau and Tamai joined their big sisters for the parade.
Hannah did a wonderful time of introducing her Mum to Room 1. It was her first time introducing someone.
Selamat pagi...good morning!
Annie spoke to us about Indonesia. She talked to us about the tigers, the 1 horned rhinos, orangutans and komodo dragons that live there. Indonesia has over 240 million people living there. The National language is Banasa Indonesian.
Annie showed us the masks that they use for story telling. Nikau was keen to have a go!
Here are her beautifully made puppets.
We loved hearing about the Indonesian geography, music, sports and arts. Thanks for all the preparation that you did Annie!
Klaudia shared some Slovakian hand crafts. The embroidery was very beautiful.
Tamai's Dad made delicious fried bread for our class shared lunch.
Thomas was a great fan of the fried rice!
Annie came back at lunch time with her own restaurant! We had vegetable fritters, chicken kebabs, fried rice and delicious beef. We wondered if she could come every day!
We finished our International Day with a concert. Many children from our school shared dances, songs and demonstrations.
Thank you Mrs Johnson for organising such a great day.

Athletics Week

On Thursday we had our Syndicate 1 Athletics Day. Thank you to all the wonderful family members who came to watch us and to cheer us on!
We all dressed up in our sports gear.
Here is Nikau eating his ice block. Thank you to the Merrin School P.T.A for buying them and an especially big thank you to Annabelle's Mum Carolyn who went and bought them all. She must have had a full shopping trolley!
These fast runners made it into the Sprint Finals. Well done Jordyn, Nikau, Ethan and Tyler!
Ethan gained 3rd place in the finals. Yipee!
Our letter for the first part of the week was 'j'. We made orange and blueberry jelly at cafe time.
We saved our jelly for Friday afternoon.
Our favourite part was visiting the staffroom to put our teaspoons in the dishwasher!
The jelly was wibbly wobbly just like we read in our poem this week.
We sent home invitations to Tuscany's farewell lunch. We are holding this next Tuesday. All family members are welcome to come. Please bring along a plate of food to share.

Athletics Day

On Tuesday April 9 we are having our Syndicate 1 Athletics Day. Athletics day goes from 11.30am until 3pm.
We would love for all our families to come and watch. Hopefully you have all received a programme for the day so that you can work out where to find your child!
(If not please come and get one from Mrs Bargh.)
If it rains our postponement day is Thursday 11 April.
On Athletics day we will be in our individual age groups for each event.
Please rememeber that each child need to wear sports shoes, mufti shorts and a t-shirt.
Tuscany is great at using the right technique for discus.
We have been practising staying in our lanes when we do the sprints.
Ethan wants to be in charge of starting the races!
We hope everyone has a wonderful day on Tuesday!
