New ipads!

Last Friday a special parcel arrived for us.
We had fun guessing what was inside. We thought it might be lollies, a toy motorbike or even new felt pens!
 How great are presents!
Jacob opened up the box for us.
Liesl and Jacob were very excited to find new ipads!
Who will get to work on them first?
Mrs McKenzie has downloaded some super aps for us to try. Thanks! Here is Oliver practising his handwriting formations.
Caitlin is showing the boys how to play Reading Eggs.
Thank you to Ms D.R and the Merrin School Fair Committee for our new ipads.
We can't wait to get more....hint! hint!

Treasure Hunt

At 'Language Experience' time we had a class treasure hunt.
The 1st clue was in Harry's tote tray. It told us to hunt in the place where library books are kept.
Lola found Clue #2. We had to all rush outside!
Here is Alara with Clue #3 asking us to hunt for something covered in rocket ships...it was our class bean bag!
Amelia found the clue that told us to look in the letter box.
Fiona and Ange took a group to hunt for the next clue out by the front gate.
Clue #5 told us to look for something with the numbers 1 to 6 on it.
Here is Amelia reading out one of the clues.
We found the treasure chest in the concrete tunnel.
Oscar is showing off the hidden gold!
Artu kindly gave out the treasure to each person.
Well done Room 1 on great team work.
(P.S. We really liked Pirate Fiona and Pirate Ange helping us!)

Fabulous Fish

Thanks to the Brinch Family we have 12 new class members in Room 1!
Gavin, Becky, Caitlin and Jacob have lent us their beautiful tropical fish tank.
Gavin is an expert on fish and all the specialised equipment that they need.
Becky and Caitlin filled up our tank with special water that they had brought from their tanks at home.
We have to remember to feed them every day with a sprinkle of fish food. Becky explained that we can watch the fish but that we shouldn't touch the tank as it might scare the fish.
We are fascinated with the fish and have even started writing about them.
Thank you so much for your kindness!
Come and see our gorgeous new tank!

Which fish is the most famous?
(The star fish!)

Which part of a fish weighs the most?

Whizzy Week One

Welcome back to Term 2. How lovely to be enjoying the sunshine and Autumn colours.
Here are some of the things that we have been up to this week.
We arrived back to school to discover a big flood. It's a big job for Ms DR to sort out but we were fascinated with all the machines!
This week we chose new workshops to join. In each of the 4 classrooms children are practising:
  • cutting
  • colouring
  • pasting
  • painting
  • holding a pencil correctly
  • giving compliments to others
Children in Room 1 will be working on Pirate creations.
Children visiting Room 3 are working on kite creations.
Room 2 is the Dinosaur Workshop.
On Friday we had our Mihi Whakatau to welcome our new staff members, children and families to our Merrin family. Ms DR welcomed everyone and the kapa haka group extended their warm welcome.
The Merrin school members welcomed our visitors with a hongi. Now everyone is part of our family.
Here are the children and parents who were welcomed from Room 1.
Alan brought along his sarcophagus. He made these at the Otago Museum when he was on holiday.
Check out our new kneeling table from Ms DR's office. Thanks Ms DR!
We tested the aeroplanes that we made at 'International Day' with Ru. Caitlin and Oliver's planes flew the furthest!

Happy Mother's Day to all the Room 1 Mums and Grandmothers.
