Today was our Merrin School International Day.
We came to school in clothes that represented our cultural heritage.
Hannah and her Mum Annie dressed up in national costumes from Indonesia.
Hannah was very brave and held the country sign for our school parade.
Klaudia joined Adam and Philip to represent Slovakia.
Nikau and Tamai joined their big sisters for the parade.
Hannah did a wonderful time of introducing her Mum to Room 1. It was her first time introducing someone.
Selamat pagi...good morning!
Selamat pagi...good morning!
Annie spoke to us about Indonesia. She talked to us about the tigers, the 1 horned rhinos, orangutans and komodo dragons that live there. Indonesia has over 240 million people living there. The National language is Banasa Indonesian.
Annie showed us the masks that they use for story telling. Nikau was keen to have a go!
Here are her beautifully made puppets.
We loved hearing about the Indonesian geography, music, sports and arts. Thanks for all the preparation that you did Annie!
Klaudia shared some Slovakian hand crafts. The embroidery was very beautiful.
Tamai's Dad made delicious fried bread for our class shared lunch.
Thomas was a great fan of the fried rice!
Annie came back at lunch time with her own restaurant! We had vegetable fritters, chicken kebabs, fried rice and delicious beef. We wondered if she could come every day!
We finished our International Day with a concert. Many children from our school shared dances, songs and demonstrations.
Thank you Mrs Johnson for organising such a great day.
