Milk Rainbows

Mrs Bargh has put us into Science groups. We each have a numbered science badge so that we can take turns at doing some of the experiment.
Today we talked about what might happen if we added food colouring and dishwashing liquid to milk. We wrote down all our ideas.
Then we got out the equipment that we needed.
Super Scientist #1 put the milk in the bowl.
Super Scientist #2 added in 3 drops of red food colouring.
Super Scientist #3 added in 3 drops of yellow food colouring.
Super Scientist #4 added in 3 drops of blue food colouring.
Each group had 4 children so that we could easily see what was happening.
Sophie made sure that the blue food colouring didn't mix with the other colours.
Samantha was Super Scientist #4. Today was her first day at school!
The next job was to use a cotton bud to add in a drop of dishwashing liquid.
The colours swirled around like a rainbow.
We thought that it was the dish washing liquid that made the top of the milk move. This made the colours mix together.
You might like to try this experiment with your family at home!

  1. Sophie Norris likes being a scientist and likes the colour red. Emily Norris (big sister) says "Wow, it looks cool and I like all the colours.
