Fendalton Library Visit

On Thursday 19 June the Year 1 classes visited the Fendalton Library.
We were very excited about travelling on the bus!
Here are Mia and Liesl looking for somewhere to sit!
Amelia and Oliver knew to sit back in their seat.
This is Room 1 arriving at the library.
We were very pleased that Vanessa and Andrea could be our Mummy helpers.
All the Year 1 children sat on the mat to share some stories.
Margo the librarian sang us a welcome song. She told us we can take out books, CDs, videos and magazines. The library also has these cool 'take home bags' with a selection of reading materials already packed up ready to go!
Kevin, Brendon, Caitlin, Lola. Sophia and Lexi acted out a story about a kingdom covered in ice.
Liesl did a great job of thanking Margo.
Room 1 thought that they would like to visit again soon.

P.S Thanks Vanessa for the great photos!

The Week of Wild Weather

This week we have spent plenty of time inside. Thanks to the P.T.A we have some great inside games to play with!

On Thursday we had a special Whetu Assembly to thank our support staff.
We invited the Office Staff, teacher aides and our caretaker to the hall for a surprise.
They do a wonderful job of helping us all.
We gave them all a card, balloons and chocolate. Room 1 made some special paper flowers for them to keep.
We sang them 'Reach For The Star' and 'They are Jolly Good Fellows.'
Here is Ethan presenting Mrs McKenzie with her flowers and chocolate.
That afternoon we also had a visit from Couplands Bakery.
They gave us a free loaf of bread to take home. We thought cheese toasties might be yummy for afternoon tea!
Thanks for visiting Kirsten and Mark.

Kahuna Education

At Friday's Whetu Time we had some special visitors.
Mr Cullinane and Ishbel from Kahuna Education, came to school to share some of their stories and songs.
Jim Cullinane is a primary school teacher and children’s songwriter and author, who brings a digital approach to the children's learning.
Some of the children tested out buttons on Mr Cullinane's laptop, to make sound effects for one of his stories.
The sound effects made us laugh!
Mr Cullinane gave us one of the books that he has written. It is called 'The Great Pumpkin Puzzle.'
Thank you Kahuna Education. Your stories and songs have such a great message!
